What better way to celebrate than a trip to visit our granddaughter, her husband Jordan Richter, and our 8-year-old great-grandson Adin! It was two years ago that the three moved to New York from Portland, Oregon, so Kerlin could attend General Seminary (sadly for us, just after John and I moved from New York to Boston . . .) This spring Kerlin will graduate and become an Episcopal priest. You can read some of Kerlin's recent sermons by clicking here>> I’ve always loved having our anniversary at this time of year with the whole world celebrating. You can tell that John’s an experienced husband when he says, “I never forget Christmas. It comes five days after our anniversary.” ____________________________________ Not everyone is a fan of long marriages. I’ll never forget my grandparents’ 60th anniversary in 1959. The party was to be at our house and I’d hired a cleaning lady to help me dust and vacuum and wash curtains. She was silent as we worked together. “Just think!” I said, trying to inject a little excitement into our efforts. “Sixty years together! Isn’t it wonderful!” No response. “Imagine the memories they must have!” Nothing but the sound of the broom. At last my morose helper set the broom down. “Awful long time,” she said, “with one man.” I’ve thought about that comment over the years. A “long time” is true. But of course it isn’t “one man.” We change, each of us, all the time. I’m still discovering new things about John to marvel at, to adjust to, to love. A human being is a whole world, as dynamic and evolving as the planet itself. Sixty-five years isn’t nearly enough time to get to know a husband… Read about Tib and John on December 20, 1947>>

That's a lovely way to look at it, that each person is a whole world. My husband and I have been married for thirty-six years, and looking at your sixty-five years together makes me hope that we have many years and as many new things to learn about each other!

I wish Nathan and I lived close by and could have you over for coffee/tea and just listen to your stories and learn from your lives and your love! (But a blog is nice too)
