Before I tell you about a few of the many staged versions of The Hiding Place, I'd like to share a letter we received recently.

The play had been staged by the non-profit British professional company, Saltmine Theatre for the Upton Vale Baptist church in Torquay, England and was so well received (more than 1000 people attended) that an extra night had to be scheduled. But the real success - beyond its value as a fund raiser - was the effect the play had on the audience. Here's an excerpt from a letter forwarded to us by co-playwright, David Robinson:

"On the Friday after the performance, Peter got a phone call from this guy who, it transpired, had been a young soldier who had actually gone in to liberate one such death camp and it had completely destroyed his faith, what he had seen. When he came to the play, the final scene had such an effect on him that he called his local vicar who saw him three times in that week after the play. His wife said to Peter that (her husband) had been racked with this raging anger for 60 years and now God had completely dealt with him and he was a different man. Praise God."

Tib and I went to see this Saltmine Theatre play during its run at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-on-Avon. As with the Upton Vale Baptist church, above, this standing-ovation run was also sold-out. The playscript is available by contacting David Robinson who will discuss royalty terms.
